The Vater-Unser-Church in Berlin was built in 1961 by the same architect who designed the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Werner March.
The church is a symmetric octagon with a dome-shaped concrete roof; although the shape is function for use, the resulting room-acoustic conditions are rather poor for the intended use. is up to 10 seconds at low frequencies; the dome causes flutter echoes). The congregation was unhappy with the existing system; speech intelligibility was not sufficient and the frequency reponse was rather poor, resulting in frequent feedbacks.
The new system consists of two much longer arrays (2m). The automatic mixer was also replaced for a model which allowed proper filtering. Listening tests with members of the congregation resulted in extemely positive feedback.
Since the installation in 2006 the system is running without any problems and provides significantly improved speech intelligibility and freedom from feedback--the congregation is perfectly content with the new system.
